Get Fit For Free: 8 Amazing Resources
There are just a couple of things I need to go over with you before we get started…
First off exercise alone will most likely not be enough for you to lose weight and reach your fitness goals. You do need to eat healthy too.
Think home-cooked, unprocessed meals consisting at least half of vegetables and the other half a good mix of protein, carbohydrates and fats. (I have a post coming out on this soon so watch out for that…)
You should also check with your doctor before starting an exercise routine or weight loss plan, it’s so important to check that they think what you will be doing is healthy and the right thing for your body.
After all, we’re all different and what’s great for one person may be awful for you…
While this post is mainly about getting fit, this often comes alongside weight loss for many people so I just want to address this quickly.
Your health or worth as a person is not dependent on being a certain size or number. Extreme dieting or starvation is never the answer to achieving the body you want.
Aim for health always, nothing else.

WHY WORKING OUT AT HOME IS THE BEST:
1) It’s free!!!
You may have guessed that would be one my top reason, but as someone aiming for early retirement if I can save money somewhere I will.
2) You can workout whenever you want
If you’re a night owl and want to workout at 3am who’s gonna stop you! Or maybe you’re a busy Mum who needs to workout whenever the kids are napping and that might only be for ten minutes, well you can at home!
3) It takes up less time than the gym
Unless you live next door to the gym, getting to the gym takes unnecessary time out of your day that could be spent doing something way better.
Plus even if you do live next door you still have to check in, go to the changing rooms, store your stuff in a locker etc all valuable minutes that could be spent working out more, or sleeping in….
4) No one else will see you
If you’re a little self-conscious, going to a gym to get fit can be a daunting prospect. Especially if your local gym is a very ‘serious’ gym and you’re only just getting started!
But at home, there is no one there but you and you can try as hard as possible without feeling judged at all. (Not that anyone should be judging you in the gym of course but I get that sometimes we just feel like that.)

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET FIT FOR FREE
– A space the size of a yoga mat.
A yoga mat is useful so you don’t have to sit on the floor, but it’s not necessary. You could use an old camping mat, a towel (not on slippery floors!), a rug or nothing at all. As long as you have enough space to lay down then you’re good.
So that’s actually it but some weights can be handy.
It’s really useful to have to some weights (think dumbbells or kettlebells) particularly as you become fitter. People are always getting rid of them so you can often find them super cheap at garage sales, goodwill, charity shops, craigslist etc.
But if you don’t want to spend then just do the workouts without them, or pick up something a little bit heavy and get started.
Tinned food is a classic, or water bottles filled with water or sand. You can even grab a rucksack and put a few slightly heavy things inside, pop that on your back during exercises like squats or planks and you will feel it.
I once worked out with two largish candles instead of dumbbells. Not even joking. They were on the side and the exercise I was doing seemed a little too easy, so I picked them up and got going.
Okay I officially think we are ready to get fit, so check out the resources below…
